How to Make Your Kids Love Fishing

Fishing for adults can be a great time. You can understand the concept and know the game. Introducing children to fishing isnt always easy. These first family fishing vacations can make your break your child in the sport.

Then there go your chances of having that extra special person eager to join you on your fishing trips in the future. Fishing can be an extremely fulfilling bonding experience between you and your child. If all goes well with your child at their young age and they catch on to the whole fishing craze, you can count on 10 to 15 years down the road of the two of you, knee high in the water, casting your poles, and talking about there lives and new love. To start, plan your first trip close to home. Children dont normally enjoy long car rides and may become cranky and discouraged before the trip even begins. And a cranky child on your vacation is never fun for anyone. The most important factor in getting your child to love fishing is patience. You must be patient with your child. No matter if they are young or old. If they feel discouraged there first time out, that will most likely be the last time they try. Smile and encourage your child. Congratulate them when they make a great cast or get that bait on the hook just right. Knowing they are doing something right and seeing you proud of them will go very far in there book. They will take note of the experience and mark it down in there book as a good time with mom or dad. Another important thing is to be sure you go somewhere where the chances of catching a fish are high. Find the best local hot spots and plan around them. A child out all day without a bite may feel like they did something wrong. Though you are never assured of a catch, it doesnt hurt to heighten your chances. Another little tip is to use live bait. Kids love playing with bugs. Make the experience a little more fun with having them help bait the worms on the hook. But always remember to use caution especially with younger children, as hooks are sharp and can be extremely dangerous in little hands. Once either of you catch the fish, clean it together. This will help your child feel like a part of the process. And they get to learn while they help. But remember that you should never force a child to clean a fish if they dont want to. That is a sure fire way to turn them away from your fishing experience. Keep in mind more than likely hooks will get lost and line will get stuck. Never get angry at these things. Let the child know that it is ok and it happens to even the best fisherman. How many fishing trips have you been on without getting your line stuck under a rock in the river? Again have fun and enjoy the experience and time you have together. Dont force the sport on your child but let it grow on them.
